We collaborate with AUTRADE (Regional association for people affected by autism and other developmental disorders)
Context
AUTRADE is a non-profit association located in Ciudad Real which provides services to people with autism spectrum disorders and their families. Its main objective is to include people with ASD as full citizens and raise awareness in society about autism by enhancing knowledge of its characteristics.
AUTRADE offers the following services, among others: a subsidized special education center, a day center, a child development and early care center, various family support programs, and public awareness/sensitization programs.
Project objective
The goal of the "Bicycle-Scooter-Skates" program is for the students at the Special Education Center to learn a leisure activity that they can share with others without ASD, thereby favoring interaction and social inclusion.
On the one hand, these activities improve their knowledge of their own body, their sensory perception of the surrounding space, and their motor skills, and, on the other hand, they promote the acquisition of healthy habits in students with little interest in certain sports due to their social and communication difficulties.
Project development
Each action of riding a bicycle, riding a scooter and skating will be divided into small activities and difficulty levels that will be tailored to each individual student, depending on his or her abilities. Implementation will be progressive, with a preliminary evaluation of the interest and degree of knowledge of each student. This will be followed by a learning process taking place at the association's facilities and, finally, by the opportunity to apply their learning outside the school in community settings.
The time dedicated to this will be 1 or 2 sessions per week, each session lasting 45 minutes.
Results
At the end of each school year, an individual assessment of each student will be conducted, assessing the achievement of each of the operational objectives set by the educational team for that specific person.
The program’s operation will be evaluated and measures will be proposed to improve it.
